Step Up For Kids
The Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers are thrilled to announce a new initiative that will begin its inaugural run this September. In partnership with Volunteers for America, Step Up For Kids will serve as the dealers’ first shoe drive, directly benefiting school-aged children throughout the greater Detroit area.
Teachers often indicate that the first outward signs of poverty can be found in the state of their student’s shoes. Quality, well-fitting shoes aren’t just a fashion staple to round out an outfit; they are essential to a student’s participation in daily activities, their ability to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle, and a means by which they can develop their own sense of individuality and confidence.
Yet, for many of Metro Detroit’s future leaders, a good pair of shoes is a luxury beyond reach. That is where Step Up For Kids comes in. Throughout the entire month of September, all 38 Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers will host a shoe donation drive, where participants can drop off a pair of new kicks for a student in need.
Sizes can range from youth 11 to adult 11, as they will be distributed to students from four to eighteen years old. Currently, brands like Nike, Converse, Under Armour, Adidas and Vans are highly sought after, but all shoes are welcome and appreciated, so long as they are in new, good condition.
When you donate a pair of shoes, you’re not only providing a means by which students can partake in school sports, after-school activities, and all the other things kids enjoy. You’re providing confidence, independence, and self-worth to the next generation – the generation that will lead the Metro Detroit of tomorrow.
Donations can be dropped off at any of the 38 participating Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers from September 1 through September 30. Simply place your donation in the designated Silverado truck bed, and your generous gift will be distributed to teachers who can make a difference.
